Regulation of PFAS ‘forever chemicals’ demanded

We have submitted a petition to the High Court of Justice against the Minister of Environmental Protection, the Ministry of Health and the Water Authority. The petition demands that the government take steps to regulate PFAS chemicals in order to protect public health.

PFAS chemical compounds are most known for being found in drinking water, fire retardants, and a wide variety of utensils and consumer goods. They are also known as ‘forever chemicals’ as they can take up to 1,000 years to break down in nature. Bernadette Bouwer, an environmental scientist at Adam Teva V’Din (pictured) expanded upon this saying, “There are serious health consequences attributed to the family of substances known as PFAS, even when we are exposed to very low concentrations. Globally, governments are introducing strategies to reduce the risk to human health, but Israeli authorities have failed to take action.”

The government continues to procrastinate; our petition should catalyze action on PFAS.
