In June 2011, during maintenance works of the pipeline managed by the Eilat-Ashkelon Pipeline Company (EAPC), fuel leaked into the Zin nature reserve, an area of special natural beauty in southern Israel. It was defined as a ‘serious’ breakdown in which many cubic meters of jet fuel spilled into the reserve, causing serious damage to habitats and endangering wildlife that came into contact with the fuel or fed on contaminated vegetation. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The court recently (2022) sentenced the defendants to light and non-deterrent sentences. Punishment in such severe pollution cases must be severe so that any manager in the future will not dare to save expenses aimed at preventing pollution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
