Climate Crisis
Israel is not ready for climate change.
Despite scientific evidence that Israel is heating up at twice the rate of the global average, there is no climate legislation in sight.
A revised and weakened draft Climate Bill has been stalled by the Knesset, and budgets for climate preparedness programs are being diverted.
Israel, as a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), is embarrassingly behind other OECD member-countries in developing laws, policies and tools to deal with the climate crisis.
Ignoring the climate crisis won’t make it go away
Israel is a small country that contributes little to global GHG emissions. But our geographical location, the geopolitical location, the geopolitical reality and unique socio-demographics make Israel particularly vulnerable to climate change.
And Israel is warming at twice the global average. Climate change will impact on public health, food production, the economy and even the regional security.
We call on the government to enact stringent climate legislation and to restore budgets for essential climate resilience measures, without further delay.
