Municipal parks must be free to all

Our appeal to the Supreme Court opened up municipal parks to become a true recreational asset for all Israelis.

In 2007 Adam Teva V’Din’s environmental justice team filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Ra’anana Municipality’s practice of charging entrance fees to non-residents at the municipal park. In effect, people living within walking distance of the park where not allowed free access; visiting family members had to wait in line while their Ra’annana-registered relatives were quickly admitted for free.

In response to the filing of our petition, our high-profile protest, public pressure and serious reflection by the Interior Minister at the time, the Municipal Ordinances were changed to prohibit local authorities to charge for entry to public parks.

Everyone has a right to enjoy public open spaces
